We have been thinking about getting another dog for a couple months now, so we decided to send in our application and everything else to Southeast Texas Lab Rescue. They do a pretty extensive background check, as well as a home visit and we were finally approved. We both decided that we didn't NEED a dog, but if we found one that we absolutely loved we would go ahead with the process. Well, I saw a black lab on the website that I wanted to come and see, and then saw some videos that they posted of a chocolate lab. The videos really caught my eye because of the way she played with one of the foster dogs she was with...I immediately thought that she and Mikey would get along really well. So before we saw the black lab, I decided that I wanted us to all meet Macy as well. We went last Saturday and spent 2 hours with her. Her foster mom warned me that she is a little scared in new situations and takes a little longer to warm up to men, but she ran right up to Ryan as soon as we got to their house. She also follows us and Mikey everywhere, and they played together perfectly. We knew she was great, but still wanted to see the black lab to be sure. We were scheduled to see him on Monday night. All day Monday, I couldn't stop thinking about Macy and was really worried that Jacob (the black lab) would be just as perfect as her and we would be faced with a very hard decision. Well, Jacob was a great dog, but was way more independent, and didn't really care that we, or Mikey, were even around. I felt bad that he wasn't the dog for us, but was relieved that it made the decision extremely easy. As soon as we got in the car and started driving home, I called Macy's foster mom to start the process. We pick her up on Thursday night. Mikey has his teeth cleaning on Friday so he will be at the vet all day (which I am EXTREMELY nervous about), so she will have plenty of time to bond with Ryan while I'm at work, and hopefully we'll just have a very laid back Friday night. Saturday, we are planning to take the dogs up to the Woodlands to "Spring Bark", which is what STLR uses as a kind of reunion. It should be fun. The pictures here are of Macy (whose name sounds perfect with Mikey). She is the chocolate lab on the right in the picture with the 5 dogs. Those other 4 dogs are her foster's dogs. All of them! And then here is her posing on the bed. This should be an experience!
